The link doesn’t work
Val,
Thanks. Refresh your browser & try again.
Clicking on the link brings a message that the server can’t be found
Let me suggest you refresh your browser & try again. It works for me. Let me know if it doesn’t.
To further complicate matters, may I suggest you refer your readers to the NYTimes Jan.22,2023 article by Jesse Singal entitled “What if Diversity Trainings Do More Harm Than Good?”
This kerfuffle seems to prove the point.
I will say that I have great respect for Joyce Ajlouny and regret that she inherited some long-standing problems that seem to be beyond solutions despite her best efforts and considerable skills.
Claire, I don’t really know JA, but I have a JA story, and here it is:
A year ago I read many dozens of pages of her background paper for the proposed restructuring of AFSC plan, which she wrote. It was work, but I was amazed at the depth of her knowledge of the organization, from top to bottom, front to back, seemingly every nook and cranny. Whether the big plan was a good idea I’m agnostic about; but that she had the kind of comprehensive, in-depth understanding of the whole crazy-quilt organizational contraption, I could not deny. And in her slot, it seemed like a major strength, and I came out respecting her. Maybe she’s imperious, grouchy, whatever (I don’t say she’s any of this, but who’s perfect?) Yet the contrast with the stuff I saw by lower-level staff was startling. If she was an ill-mannered cardiologist, I’d still want her to be fixing my ventricles.
Most of the lower-levels, from what I read and saw, were mainly intent on protecting their little program fiefdoms (and job slots ). Can’t blame ’em for that, but doesn’t somebody need to know and oversee the whole rickety frickin’ crazy-makin’ mess?
Ps. I read the Jesse Singal piece (& several more like it), and you’re right. So is he.
My one time experience with JA was in-person, when she was on a fund-raising tour for Ramallah school (basically raising her own salary). She came to Saratoga Springs meeting house upstate NY and spoke to a small group of Friends and peaceniks. She spoke from the heart about the situation in Israel/Palestine; I remember her description of protecting her kids, who were little at the time, from the violence.
Yes, about the depth of her knowledge…. I can’t imagine her being imperious but maybe dealing with all the craziness has made her so.
As a fellow ex-Catholic you will understand me when I say that when I heard she was going to work for AFSC I crowned her Patron Saint of Hopeless Causes.
Yes indeed. And she appears to be making her own stations of the cross . . . .
Clicking on the green link takes me to a page “server cannot be found”. Is it a technical glitch, or was the original message taken down. Just curious and asking for a Friend.
I think I fixed it — refresh your browser & try again. Worked for me.
