Gwynne Dyer on AI: An Emergency?

Or rather, I’ve been reading his columns for almost fifteen years, and I think this latest column was actually “written” by Dyer, and not a new bot that has learned his style and picked his brain.

But consider: On his website, Dyer says:
”To date, this site contains 2,091 articles containing 1,886,063 total words!”

 

That is an archival trove that would take me months to absorb. Chatbot, though, can zip through and analyze it all in a few seconds, while also learning to mimic Dyer’s writing style and journalistic priorities. Supposedly, its output could read just like his, while putting the old “Gwynne Dyer” out of business, or at least out to lunch.
I’m going to post this column below anyway, and re-read it later to see if it still looks as “authentic” as it did the first time . . . .]
